Tomatoes are in season during the summer months, but are usually available all year long in the produce section of your local grocery store. Because of their wide availability, they have become a staple in many pantries. Tomatoes have a high water content making them perfect for canning. Canned tomatoes are a great substitution for fresh, and can make preparing recipes a breeze.
Tomatoes are high in vitamin C and Vitamin K, and they have no fat or cholesterol.
You can find canned tomatoes in a lot of different varieties including:
- petite diced
- whole, peeled
- fire roasted
- with green chilies
Check your recipe to see which variety is needed.
